Watch: How Disney Used Live-Action References for Their Animated Features
In an age where CGI is capable of creating animation that mirrors real-life so closely it's spooky, sometimes everything else seems to pale in comparison. When you look back at Walt Disney and his crew, however, the magical beginnings of animation's artistry are still shining bright — particularly in this live-action test footage from the "mad tea party" scene in Alice in Wonderland.
According to YouTube user lostvocals4, the audio from the test footage ended up being the same as the final film. "When Ed Wynn was brought back in to the recording studio to re-do his lines, the reading was not as good as the reference tests, so the test audio was used for the film," lostvocals4 shares. Watch a fascinating side-by-side comparison of the two, and then click on for another video of the Mickey Mouse Studio's live-action references that will wow you with childlike wonder.
