Watch: Here's One Way Humans Create Realistic Lion-Roaring Sounds in Movies

Apr 26, 2012

We came across this video earlier today, and thought it provided a really fun look behind-the-scenes at just how human beings create some of the fascinating, realistic sounds we hear (and subsequently take for granted) in movies every day. One of the things I loved most about The Avengers is the unbelievable sound. Every little sound in that film pops through your body like a piece of sweet candy, especially the stuff featuring Mark Ruffalo's amazing Hulk (who steals almost every scene he's in). Obviously technology has advanced in the years since The Lion King, but even today post-production specialists are still banging on everyday household items in an effort to produce all sorts of wild sounds.

Here's an example of how they produced lion roaring sounds featured in The Lion King. Stuff like this you always take for granted, and after watching The Lion King maybe you thought they simply hung around a bunch of real lions and recorded their real-life roars. Nope. Here's what they did instead.
