Proving even the greatest filmmakers often start at the very bottom of the totem pole, here's a really great video that's just been added to YouTube about a month ago featuring Paul Thomas Anderson giving a silly guided tour through the set of a TV movie called Secret Vows (aka Sworn to Vengeance), where he was working as a production assistant at the time. This wasn't anything official -- just Anderson and his buddy fooling around with some off time, it seems -- and it does give you a taste of how TV movies are made, as well as how dorky people looked back in the early-90s, when Nirvana and Pearl Jam ruled the dress codes across America.
The next year Anderson would make his short Cigarettes & Coffee, which would eventually lead to his first feature, Hard Eight, in 1996, and then Boogie Nights in 1997. The rest, as they say, is history.
