We're big fans of Jamie Benning's videos (or, as he calls them, "filmumentaries") here at Movies.com because he puts so much time and attention toward digging up all of the best behind-the-scenes tidbits for this running commentary that it's practically impossible for you not to get immediately immersed in his presentation. First he tackled the three original-trilogy Star Wars movies, and now he's moved on to Raiders of the Lost Ark, providing the first 17 minutes from that upcoming filmumentary, titled Raiding the Lost Ark, for our viewing pleasure (with a hat tip to Wired's GeekDad for premiering it).
If you're not familiar with the way Benning operates, then you'll only need to watch a few minutes to become engrossed in his wealth of delicious material. It's a true fan doc from a fan who knows what other fans want to watch and listen to. Here, he pulled tons of material -- interviews, notes, behind-the-scenes clips, audition tapes, etc ... -- that spans several years, and then intricately dropped them on top of the film to give you a sort of ultimate Indiana Jones-watching experience. From Tom Selleck's rare audition tape to great anecdotes from Steven Spielberg and George Lucas, to a fantastic story from Alfred Molina recalling the tarantula scene in the opening sequence, there's so much awesomeness packed into these first 17 minutes that we dare you to get bored.
Like he did with the Star Wars filmumentaries, Benning will make Raiding the Lost Ark available for free when he's all done with it, and we'll be back to show it to you again then. In the meantime, enjoy this look back at Raiders of the Lost Ark ...
