Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising

Rude, raunchy and very, very funny, Neighbors burst out big in 2014, confirming the box office appeal of Seth Rogen. The movie made more than $270 million at the box office worldwide, which pretty much guaranteed that a sequel would be forthcoming.

The only real surprise is that the sequel is arriving so quickly. Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising brings back Rogen as Mac Radner, with Rose Byrne also returning as his wife Kelly and Zac Efron reprising his role as Teddy Sanders, the wild and crazy head of the fraternity that moved in next door to the young family.

Here's a new trailer for Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising. Please note that this is a red-band trailer and is very definitely not safe for work (NSFW). It features profanity and sexual aids (many, many sexual aids).

Granted, the premise is strikingly familiar, as another large group of college students move in next door to a hapless family and the kids love to party hard and loud! Oh, no, what will our beloved family members do?

But while the movie may initially look like a virtual remake of the original, swapping out a fraternity for a sorority as the next door neighbors opens up rich comic possibilities. Rogen, for example, has nothing in common with the attractive young women who just want to have a good time.

Also, truth to tell, Byrne was the secret weapon that gave the original such wild comic snap, especially as things got crazier and more demented in the second half of the movie. Her actions in the new movie are only hinted at in the trailer, which makes us hope that she will be a ticking comic time bomb who must eventually summon forth her power as a mother to protect her family.

Reteaming Rogen and Byrne with Efron, this time as an ally, also offers a new twist, and we wonder how far Efron's charm will go with the sorority members when he's working against them. Chloe Grace Moretz leads the sorority, so it should be fun to see her more scenes of her doing broad physical comedy.

Other returning cast members include Ike Barinholtz, Carla Gallo, Lisa Kudrow as the college dean and twins Elise Vargas and Zoey Vargas as the adorable daughter of Rogen and Byrne. Once again, Nicholas Stoller directed.

Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising opens in theaters nationwide on May 20.
