Watch: Arnold Gets Animated in 'The Schwarzenegger Trilogy'

Aug 25, 2011

Still image from the animated Schwarzenegger TrilogyWhen we think of Arnold Schwarzenegger these days, it’s easy to forget the hundreds of hours of action-packed entertainment he gave us and focus on his infidelity and divorce. Maybe that will change in time – and if it does, the Governator should probably send the guys at BrainbowInc a little thank you card.

The company, which was founded in 2008 and features the collaborative works of two visual artists, has crafted a cool animated short featuring some of Arnold’s best movie moments – guaranteed to remind you of the good old days when Schwarzenegger ruled the box office and not the state of California.

Entitled The Schwarzenegger Trilogy, the nearly four-minute long featurette showcases three different moments from Arnold’s career. The first, entitled ‘5, 4, 3, 2…’ is a series of Hollywood movie explosions with some Schwarzenegger dialogue turned into a simple beat. The second, ‘Galleria,’ is a nicely animated recreation of the first showdown between Schwarzenegger and the T-1000 in the hallways behind the stores of a California mall. The third, ‘Come On…Get Down,’ is a catchy, almost G-funk inspired beat with some of Arnold’s best dialogue providing the lyrics. Kinda reminded of us of MF Doom’s Monster Zero – which used samples from Godzilla films instead of action movies…

The Brainbow guys say the animation was all done by hand (stretch those wrists, fellas!), and required 1600 frames of cell animation. The colors were added with highlighters, giving the short its distinctive look. The film premiered at the Standard Hotel in downtown LA as part of the bi-monthly Cine-Shorts series – an event designed to give directors and artists a chance to showcase their talents.

You don’t have to go all the way to LA to see The Schwarzenegger Trilogy, though – thanks to the magic of the Internet, you can watch it for yourself below. When you’re finished, be sure to check out the Brainbow Vimeo page – these guys are doing some cool work.
