With The Avengers DVD/Blu-ray arriving on September 25, we've been seeing bits and pieces of what to expect from this year's biggest film once it finally arrives in your couch-potato lap. In addition to a couple of deleted scenes and various sections of a making-of documentary, Marvel/Disney just released one of the film's more appetizing special features: an alternate opening.
In an interesting twist, this version opens 48 hours after the Avengers save New York City from an alien attack. In it, Agent Maria Hill is being interrogated regarding events that brought a city to its knees, with all-too-brief cameos from Captain America and the Hulk. It's a pretty solemn opening, and we can see why it wasn't used, though along with the short Item 47 it at least gives us a taste of how New York City carried on in the days following the attack. That's a piece of the story we rarely get from these types of films.
