Watch: 'Godzilla' Director Gareth Edwards Created This Creepy Sci-fi Short in Only 48 Hours

May 19, 2014

British director Gareth Edwards stormed theaters this past weekend with a blockbuster update of Japanese monster icon Godzilla. It’s a far cry from his low-budget directorial debut, Monsters, which was made for a measly $500,000 with the help of nonactors, digital video, and real-life locations on which he shot guerilla-style.

Before Monsters appeared on the scene, Edwards created a five-minute short for the Sci-Fi-London 48 Hour Film Challenge in 2008 — an event in association with the Sci-Fi Channel (now known, to the chagrin of many, as Syfy). According to the Film Stage, the project required filmmakers to feature a clear bottle with red or green liquid in the short, and include the line of dialogue: “I am required to carry out this task until completion: your orders do not override anything.”

Factory Farmed sets the scene at a cloning facility, where the most terrifying force of nature isn’t a radioactive fire-breathing creature, but man himself.
