Tron fans looking for new adventures inside The Grid will want to check out what Disney has lined up for them in the upcoming animated series, Tron: Uprising. We’ve got all the details on the newest installment in the sci-fi franchise, and an early look at the full 30-minute series prelude.
The series, which is earning lots of positive buzz after a recent junket appearance, focuses on a young man named Beck (voiced by Elijah Wood) – a mechanic who becomes a revolutionary after his friend is “derezzed” by Clu’s army. If you’re not up on all your Tron mythology, that might not make a ton of sense, but the new show will have you up to speed in no time.
Beck eventually catches the eye of Tron (Bruce Boxleitner) himself – who sees great potential in the young man and trains him to be his successor as The Grid’s greatest champion. Beck is apparently destined for even greater things, becoming the leader of a revolutionary movement designed to free The Grid once and for all.
The animated series features some very cool 2D CG animation that seamlessly blends a modern and classic aesthetic. The show has also lined up an impressive cast of voice talent. Aside from Wood and Boxleitner, the series also features the vocal stylings of Lance Henriksen, Reginald Veljohnson (Die Hard’s Sgt. Al Powell), Mandy Moore, Emmanuelle Chriqui, and Paul “Pee-Wee Herman” Reubens.
Tron: Uprising is set to debut its first episode on Disney XD on June 7th, but to get everyone ready the House of Mouse is airing a 30 minute prelude episode on May 18th. If the 18th feels too far away, you can catch the entire preview show below, then be sure to let us know what you think in the comment section.
