Warner Bros. has updated the release date and plot details for Andy and Lana Wachowski’s next project: Jupiter Ascending. Get out your summer 2014 calendar…
The film, which stars Channing Tatum, Mila Kunis, Eddie Redmayne and Sean Bean, is set to make its theatrical bow on July 25, 2014. While that’s still a ways off, we can tell you that this means it will be opening against Brett Ratner’s Hercules: The Thracian Wars, which finds Dwayne Johnson playing the mythical hero.
If you’re unfamiliar with Jupiter Ascending, here’s a brief plot breakdown:
Apparently, there are higher forms of alien life watching us from the cold darkness of outer space, but back here on Earth Mila Kunis is a Russian immigrant who makes her living cleaning toilets. If spending her day cleaning the throne wasn’t bad enough, turns out Mila has the same genetic makeup as the queen of the galaxy, making her a major threat to the queen’s eternal rule. We’re guessing that means Mila needs to be eliminated. Tough break.
Is it just me, or does this basically sound like Snow White and Cinderella with aliens? There’s an evil queen, a princess who doesn’t know she’s a princess who spends her life doing degrading menial labor, and is a threat to that queen, and so on. All that’s missing are seven dwarfs – and they could be there and we just don’t know it yet. It’s so weird, we’re actually interested in seeing if the Wachowskis can pull this off.
