If Warm Zombies wasn't already based on a very popular book, you'd think it was some sort of weird Twilight-esque spoof meant to capitalize on the popularity of that franchise as it ends its current theatrical run. But it's not a spoof, and while it may have been made to capitalize on those younger fans who adore stories about otherworldly creatures falling for humans, Warm Bodies definitely looks to bring its own unique charm to the equation.
Starring Nicholas Hault and Teresa Palmer, the film follows the love story between a human girl (Palmer) and a zombie (Hault) who's stuck somewhere between being a full-on nasty, brains-eating zombie and a regular teenage boy who's got a crush on a girl. The trailer plays it like a romantic comedy set during the zombie apocalypse, and while it's ridiculously difficult to find the right commercial tone for something like this (with Shaun of the Dead being the exception), we trust Jonathan Levine as a director. His previous film 50/50 also had to balance a fine line when it came to tone since it was essentially a comedy about being diagnosed with a rare form of cancer, and so if anyone can pull this off it's Levine.
Check out the first trailer below and let us know what you think. We're especially curious to hear from those fans of the book as to whether this trailer is what you expected to see. The release date for the film has just shifted to February 1, 2013, right before Valentine's Day, which gives you plenty of time to find the zombie lover in your life.
