Rumors about a Wanted sequel have been circulating even before the 2008 action-thriller was released, but odds about the story between director Timur Bekmambetov and screenwriters Michael Brandt and Derek Haas were amongst the many reasons why the production was stalled. Read on for sequel details, but beware of a major spoiler.
In an interview at Hollywood.com, Haas revealed that the creative differences were amicable, which is why he and writing partner Brandt got a call in 2011 to come back to the project after multiple writers were given a tryout. "We got that call that you always love as a screenwriter. 'Can you guys please come back?' We loved the world. That experience was great. We said, 'Well here's what we want to do with the sequel.' And they said, 'Okay.'"
Many have wondered if star Angelina Jolie would be returning from the grave, but Haas made it clear that he has no intentions of resurrecting the assassin. "We never wanted to do that movie," the writer stated. Better yet, it looks like we'll be seeing another woman at arms — this time swapping places with disgruntled desk monkey-turned-killer Wesley, played by James McAvoy. "The only thing I can tell you is that Wesley [James McAvoy] is now, four years later, recruiting a young woman who is in his situation in the first movie. She's got a sh**ty life. He's sort of in the Fox role. This new girl is brought into the world."
Who should be the girl learning to do impossible things with bullet trajectories and destroying stuff in slo-mo? It's probably safe to say that it won't be someone like Chloë Moretz, since the part may be a little too similar to her Hit-Girl character for the upcoming Kick-Ass sequel. Who gets your vote instead?
