You’ve watched their movies and gotten your groove on to their music, now you can eat their hamburgers. That’s right, Mark and Donnie Wahlberg are about the set the culinary scene in Boston’s Hingham Shipyard on fire when they open Wahlburgers later this year.
Hard as it is to believe, the brothers (along with older brother Paul, who’s a chef and will oversee operations), getting the Wahlburgers’ name was the hardest part of the whole venture. Apparently, someone else had trademarked it. Mark and Donnie were able to persuade the people who owned the name to part with it (for an undisclosed amount), and will now have full spectrum rights to the name. Everyone is pleased with the outcome.
Business partner Ed St. Croix told The Boston Herald that while they had backup names in the works, they really wanted this one. “It just works. It's a good-sounding brand so we could put out the product with a great name people could relate to."
The Wahlbergs already own an Italian restaurant, Alma Nove, in the area – and are looking to expand their food empire even further when they open a pizza joint this spring. Can a Food Network reality series be far behind?
