A group of friends break into a creepy house in search of a certain VHS tape, and each tape they watch contains a different, but equally messed-up recording on it. It's a kind of a brilliant setup for a horror anthology, really. Even if you don't love the entire film, V/H/S is still one of the most interesting anthologies in years, and the potential for sequels is limited only by the talent involved.
So, naturally, V/H/S 2 is already in the works. And if it follows the pattern of its predecessor, which featured segments directed by Ti West, Adam Wingard, Joe Swanberg and more, it's probably already done filming and just waiting for release. And so while it'll likely be a few more months before we know more about what will actually be in the movie (perhaps a Sundance premiere is in the cards again), we do know who will be behind the camera this time:
Gareth Evans - The Raid
Eduardo Sanchez - The Blair Witch Project, Altered, Lovely Molly
Jason Eisener - Hobo with a Shotgun
Timo Tjahjanto - Macabre
Gregg Hale - Lovely Molly
Adam Wingard - You're Next, A Horrible Way to Die
Simon Barrett - You're Next, A Horrible Way to Die
That's obviously more directors than the first V/H/S, which suffered a bit from being too long, but they're actually not all directing standalone segments. Evans and Tjahjanto are codirecting, as are Sanchez and Hale. Barrett is directing his own, however, which will mark the screenwriter's directorial debut. Brad Miska, Roxanne Benjamin, Gary Binkow, Zak Seman and Tom Owen are all back as producers.
We're very excited to see what happens with the directors of The Raid and Hobo with a Shotgun play around with found-footage horror, but what say you? Are you interested in a V/H/S 2, and if so, what do you think of the lineup so far?
Also, don't forget to check out our interview with V/H/S writer-producer (and soon director) Simon Barrett.
