Rhys Ifans looked really cool as The Lizard in Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man, but before Webb and his team settled on the look that was used in the film, Ian Joyner came up with a number of different concept pieces that weren’t selected. Amd some of them are very cool.
Now, thanks to the magic of the internet (which is the world’s greatest repository for awesome things, it seems), we can see some of those concept pieces that were passed over.
What’s interesting about a few of the designs that got rejected by Team Webb is how they really play up the lizard angle of the character. Several of these images make Ifans’ Dr. Curt Connors more of a reptile than a man – and we imagine that’s why they weren’t used. Part of what makes the Lizard interesting is realizing he’s something of a tragic figure – which is lost (along with the human element) in some of these designs. Don’t get me wrong, they’re great designs – they just didn’t quite fit this film.
