Now that the finale of True Detective has destroyed all of our lives and secured its place in the annals of television awesomeness, let the mash-ups, homages and other nonsense pour in. Blastr spotted this ode to one of pop culture’s greatest detective stories (at least on one level), which combines the gorgeous opening credits of True Detective with the characters from the Batman canon.
Set to the HBO show’s opening theme song "Far from Any Road" by the Handsome Family, we see shape-shifting figures with instantly recognizable silhouettes: Harley Quinn, Selina Kyle, the bat dude himself and more. Blastr suggests this mash-up might be a good model for the tone of the upcoming Gotham series on Fox – scheduled to premiere in the 2014-2015 season.
The show will focus on the relationship and adventures between Detective James Gordon (then, a rookie) and Bruce Wayne. They're not quite the detective team of Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson, but somewhere in the pulpy, noir universe the four men are giving each other a silent nod of approval.
And here are the real opening credits for True Detective to compare. These won an "Excellence in Title Design" award at the recent SXSW festival in Austin, Texas.
