Watch: A Skateboarder Fight For His Life In Rad Short Film From a WETA Digital VFX Artist

Nov 12, 2015

Even though they're called short films, in this day-and-age of constant distraction most people still don't have the time to dedicate to watching short films. That's a bummer because shorts are how a lot of very talented but unproven writers and directors make a name for themselves. But hey, we get it: life is fleeting and you've only got so much time.

That ticking clock aspect is actually part of what makes Trick Meter so cool. We don't even want to say what the short itself is about - it is only 4-minutes long, so it won't take long to discover what's going on - but we can promise that it's worth it. We will say that this short is extra impressive for three simple reasons.

1. It has no dialogue, but you still understand exactly what's going on.

2. It's a clever story that creates its own urban legend.

3. It was written, shot, directed and had all of the vfx done by the same guy: Simeon Duncombe.

That last point in particular is noteworthy since the whole package for Trick Meter looks so great. It's also not that surprising when you look up Duncombe and realize he's a lead animator at WETA Digital, where he's worked on The Hobbit, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Avatar and more.

Check it out, and thanks to Twitch Film for the find.
