Trailer Buzz: Wes Anderson's 'Isle of Dogs,' James Corden is 'Peter Rabbit' and an 'Earth' Sequel

Here's a trailer roundup focused on upcoming movies about animals:

Isle of Dogs

Wes Anderson's next stop-motion animated feature, Isle of Dogs, follows a pack of canine characters as they're banished to an island of trash. Bryan Cranston voices their leader, Chief, while Bill Murray, Edward Norton, Jeff Goldblum and Bob Balaban play the rest of the main group, who help a young Japanese boy (Koyu Rankin) search for his missing pup.

The dystopian sci-fi movie features an even bigger star-studded voice cast, including Tilda Swinton, Scarlett Johansson, Frances McDormand and Greta Gerwig, and now has a very funny, very Wes Anderson-y trailer with its showcase of obscure '60s psychedelic group The West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band on the soundtrack. Isle of Dogs arrives in theaters on March 23, 2018.

Peter Rabbit

Moving on to something a little more reality based, the world of Beatrix Potter is given the live-action and animation hybrid treatment with Domhnall Gleeson starring in the human role of Mr. McGregor and James Corden voicing the title character. The latter is joined by his rabbit sisters played by Margot Robbie, Elizabeth Debicki and Daisy Ridley.

Peter Rabbit comes to us from writer-director Will Gluck, who previously helmed the Annie remake, and Sony Pictures Animation, which worked on the similar live-action/animation hybrid Smurfs movies. The first trailer presents the creatures of the McGregor farm as party animals, reminiscent of parts of The Secret Life of Pets and Shaun the Sheep before it. The movie opens February 9, 2018.

Earth: One Amazing Day

Finally, we have real animals in real settings, with no CG or humans on display. Earth: One Amazing Day is a sequel to the 2007 documentary Earth and somewhat to its 2009 follow-up, Oceans. Both of those earlier features were released through Disney's Disneynature brand, but this one will go out via their original producer, BBC Earth Films.

Once again comprised of footage shot for the Planet Earth TV series franchise, Earth: One Amazing Day will have two different versions out in theaters. Robert Redford narrates the English-language release, while Jackie Chan narrates the Mandarin-language version for China, and each has its own team of directors too. Find the former version in US theaters on October 6.
