The Avengers

As Loki, the handsome villain everyone loved to hate in The Avengers, Tom Hiddleston stole his way into millions of hearts. He was sly, cunning and debonair, yet he also manifested a nasty mean streak that went way beyond pranking his adopted brother Thor. He got a chance to redeem himself in Thor: The Dark World last year, although it's safe to say that Hiddleston is still most identified in the public eye as someone who cannot be trusted. But can he sing?

Hiddleston has signed up to star in the upcoming biopic I Saw the Light as country-music legend Hank Williams, according to Screen Daily. The production has secured rights to the official catalog, and Hiddleston will be doing his own singing, which means we might be hearing Loki singing "Hey Good Lookin'" and "Your Cheating Heart" with an authentic Southern twang.

We joke about Loki's musical abilities, but Hiddleston has serious chops as a singer. He sang in Disney's animated The Pirate Fairy, as this video demonstates.

Near the end of this clip, he sings an excerpt from "The Bare Necessities" (from The Jungle Book) a capella in front of a live audience.

He must love to sing; here's a compilation clip from various appearances in which he sings and even raps.

And here he is singing a karaoke version of "Stand by Me" -- in a car.

Hank Williams was a brilliant musician and songwriter, although he suffered from the effects of alcoholism and died far too soon at the age of 29 in 1953. Hiddleston is about the right age and clearly has the musical inclination to go along with his acting prowess.

The movie is based on a biography by Colin Escott. Production is scheduled to begin in Louisiana in October under the direction of Marc Abraham (Flash of Genius).
