bizarre behavior on TV talk shows in the recent past hasn't slowed him down one bit. Even though efforts, like last year's Knight & Day
, didn't perform well with American audiences, THR is reporting that the actor with the million dollar smile is being tapped for Doug Liman's sci-fi lit adaptation, All You Need is Kill
. The site reports that the project has been re-titled We Are Mortals
and that Brad Pitt is no longer being eyed for the role of a soldier who is cruelly caught in a time loop that repeatedly sends him to battle where he dies each day.
Once Liman's moon picture, Luna, died, his focus was set on the remake of Hiroshi Sakurazaka's novel. Even though the script calls for a younger recruit fresh on the battlefield, Liman and the studio seem to be opting for an older star, leaving contenders like Ryan Gosling — who was previously reported to be in talks for the role — on the sidelines. Cruise is currently filming One Shot for Christopher McQuarrie — who recently added famed director Werner Herzog to his cast list — based on Lee Child's Jack Reacher series.

remake route with an older American star, or has the studio got this one all wrong with Cruise? Visit THR
