Check out this exclusive TV spot for Terrence Malick's poetic examination of relationships To the Wonder. Javier Bardem, who stars as a priest contemplating the connections between God and love, narrates the clip: "Love is not only a feeling, love is beauty. To commit yourself is to run the risk of failure, a risk of betrayal."
Ben Affleck's character discovers this when he becomes caught between two women — his Parisian wife (Olga Kurylenko) and an old hometown flame (Rachel McAdams). Love falters and transforms as he reconnects with his past and reconsiders the future. Despite mixed reviews at its Venice Film Festival premiere, critics — including the late, great Roger Ebert (his review will be published next week) — have praised its "stylistic evolution" and meditation on "everyday beauty."
Malick approached production of the film with an experimental heart, ditching the traditional screenplay and shooting by the light of the sun. Hanan Townshend composed the score for Tree of Life and rejoins the director for To the Wonder's lyrical soundscape. The beautiful soundtrack will also be available digitally on April 16 and in stores May 21. The filmmaker's breathtaking visuals are made for big-screen viewings, but the movie will be simultaneously available on VOD during its release on April 12.
