'To The Wonder' Trailer: Terrence Malick's Latest Loves to Frolic in the Meadow

Dec 19, 2012

The first trailer for Terrence Malick's next film, To The Wonder, has debuted over at the Guardian, and... it looks like a Terrence Malick movie. This one, which centers on a love triangle between a man (Ben Affleck), his French girlfriend (Olga Kurylenko) and his childhood sweetheart (Rachel McAdams), looks to feature plenty of magnificently sweeping shots of people in love, frolicking through many meadows, because I guess that's what you do when you're in love. There's a voiceover from Javier Bardem in there, too, who plays a priest in the film, and he talks about the ups and downs of being in love while Malick's gorgeous imagery injects us with warm, fuzzy feelings.

Reactions were mixed on the film following its film festival premiere (read our review here), but that's almost always the case with a Terrence Malick movie. The man makes films that are more about extracting emotions from imagery and less about all the normal story beats of your generic new release, and so his films require a little bit more patience, understanding and willingness to let yourself open up both mentally and spiritually to what he's trying to deliver.

Check it out below and let us know what you think. To The Wonder arrives in theaters in the U.K. on February 22, and April 12 in the U.S.
