Tina Fey and Amy Poehler to Host the Golden Globes

Oct 16, 2012

Now that Ricky Gervais has put in his time as host of the Golden Globes, it's time to pass the torch to a female duo that makes perfect sense. Tina Fey and Amy Poehler will host the next Golden Globes ceremony, which will air live across the country on NBC this coming January 13. The actresses, who each have their own very successful NBC shows (Fey with 30 Rock, Poehler with Parks and Recreation), are a solid choice because they bring years of built-in chemistry between the two, not to mention they're actually funny.

On top of that they're both excellent comedic writers, so while we expect their routine to be a little less controversial and mean-spirited than Ricky Gervais has been, they still know how to bring the funny and make it relatable to millions of people, which is a difficult thing to do when it comes to these awards shows. You need a reason to tune in for three hours, and Fey and Poheler should give us an entertaining show, at the very least.

Paul Telegdy, NBC's president of alternative and late night, said, "Having both Tina Fey and Amy Poehler onboard to host this year’s festivities is a major coup. Tina and Amy have a proven chemistry and comedic timing from their many years together on SNL to their successful costarring roles in Baby Mama."

The choice of Fey and Poehler comes on the heels of the Academy selecting Seth MacFarlane (Family Guy, Ted) to host the Oscars, signaling that each show feels they'll do best with a funny personality as host versus a big-name actor or someone known for their musical chops (though MacFarlane brings both).

Do you like the decision? Does it matter to you who hosts the Golden Globes?
