Corruption, betrayal, a drug heist gone bad, and a few dirty cops, Sleepless Night is the newest "lean, mean" action film to come out of TIFF. The trailer for Frédéric Jardin's French thriller reveals more than it should, but you get a taste for the film's frenetic vibe thanks to a little help from Clint Eastwood's cinematographer, Tom Stern. The drugs in question belong to a mobster and nightclub owner (Serge Riaboukine). The cop (Tomer Sisley) in question has been running a thieving side biz for himself. His son has been taken as collateral until the stash is returned. Enter a female rookie officer who has been tailing the corrupt lieutenant to complicate matters. Peter at /Film called Sleepless Night "one of the best contained action [thrillers] in years." Check out the trailer below and see if you agree.
Magnet Releasing has already snatched up the U.S. rights to Michael Dowse’s Goon, starring Seann William Scott, Jay Baruchel, Liev Schreiber and Alison Pill. Superbad and Pineapple Express writer Evan Goldberg co-wrote the hockey comedy with Baruchel about a fist-happy bouncer-turned-hockey player who livens up the gameplay for a lagging, misfit team. The trailer features Scott Pilgrim vs. The World's Alison Pill discussing the uber horniness of guys swinging big sticks. Who can argue with that? The whole thing reads like The Mighty Ducks for bad boys.
