What's wrong with every movie about the end of the world? It's not the outlandish plot devices. It's not the fake CGI effects. It's not the must-have sappy ending. It's that they're all about normal people trying to survive the end times, and who cares about normal people, right? Celebrities are all that matter in this life, and that's exactly where This Is the End shines.
The directorial debut of funnymen Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg (Pineapple Express, Superbad), This Is the End is about a bunch of celebrities you know and love trying to survive the end of days. More specifically, James Franco is having a big, wild party right as the rapture hits, and so our survivors are Franco's friends: Jonah Hill, Danny McBride, Jay Baruchel, Craig Robinson and Seth Rogen, all playing themselves. And they're joined by a massive roll call of Hollywood comedy regulars like Michael Cera, Martin Starr, Aziz Ansari, Mindy Kaling, Jason Segel, Paul Rudd, Emma Watson, and surely even more celebrity cameos.
We actually visited the set of This Is the End earlier this year (back when it was called The End of the World), and while we can't talk specifically about what we were shown until closer to its June 14, 2013 release date, we will say this: Rogen and Goldberg love themselves some blood. This movie likes to have fun with it's celebrities, and when one dies (and many, many will), it is not going to be pretty.
Warning, this has very, very NSFW language in it.
