We've previously reported that a third film in the Before Sunrise series about Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy's wandering couple — who spend the night talking about life and love — was on the way. "All three of us have been having similar feelings that we're ready to revisit those characters," Hawke told French magazine AlloCine back in November. Now Ethan Hawke has told MTV that he's currently in Greece working on the new film with Richard Linklater. "We're here writing a third installment to Before Sunrise, the actor said. "If it works out, we'll film it, and if it doesn't, we won't. It's not really worth talking about. I'm just here developing."
Both Hawke and Delpy share writing credits with Linklater on the previous movies, so they aren't in Greece just for the love of the camera. They're working behind the scenes on the new installment as well, and Hawke sounded optimistic about the trio's progress. "It's super good," he said. "We're just here workshopping it and developing it, trying to create a great script." The couple has already explored Vienna and Paris, so hopefully this means Greece is their next stop.
Each movie has had nine years separating them, and we last saw the duo in their early thirties for Before Sunset. Hawke's Jesse was married with a son, and Delpy's Celine had a boyfriend. We'll drop the film's ending below in case you need a refresher, but brace for deep sighs and longing looks.
