If you want to find your favorite movie on Blu-ray, Best Buy seems to be a better place than most to visit. Why? The big blue stores have a running history of getting exclusive Blu-ray debuts weeks—and sometimes months—before the titles are available at other outlets. For example, Blu-ray Bob announced that the adult animated classic
Heavy Metal was coming to Blu-ray only to have it dropped from the schedule. Well, it is coming to Blu-ray—as a Best Buy exclusive—on February 1. On the same day, Best Buy will also exclusively sell the Blu-ray debuts of the Oscar-winning documentary
The Cove, The Rules of Attraction and
Still Waiting…. These titles come two days after Best Buy releases the Blu-ray debut of
Almost Famous on, yes, a Sunday. Then, on May 3, Best Buy will be the first store to sell the Blu-ray edition of 1962's
The Manchurian Candidate.
It appears to be no accident why all the stores are painted blue, er, blu.
