Yesterday an image leaked online, reportedly snapped in director James Mangold's office, and word quickly spread that this may indeed be the first teaser poster for The Wolverine, which films later this year and is set to hit theaters on July 26th, 2013. The clean, simple design is a great one -- highlighting the fact that Wolverine's story will take him to Japan this time around -- though word has it this isn't a final design. 20th Century Fox is saying that this is just "concept art" and it probably won't be used for the final film, according to Screenrant, who first discovered it.
Whether or not it has to do with Wolverine's claws slicing through Japan's most recognizable symbol, we do not know, though we hope the studio sticks with a minimalist poster design because they seem to work better than the crowded photoshopped variety, at least with fans. But since filming isn't set to begin for a little while, don't expect the real teaser poster to drop prior to, say, San Diego Comic-Con, which is an event Fox may use to launch the next Wolvy installment.
In the meantime, here's that poster. What do you think?
