At almost $10 million, The Way, Way Back was easily the biggest sale at this year's Sundance Film Festival, with Fox Searchlight dishing out some serious cash for the coming-of-age comedy starring Steve Carell, Sam Rockwell, Liam James and Allison Janney. The plot follows a shy, quiet kid (Liam James) who travels to his mother's boyfriend's beach house for a summer of dysfunctional fun. It's there that he winds up befriending the ragtag group of hilarious misfits who run the nearby waterpark, and along with assistance from a summer crush this shy boy quickly learns how to come out of his shell.
It's a great summer crowd-pleaser that's cute, comfortable, funny, poignant and just plain makes you feel good. Will that translate to a hefty box office to make up for the film's expensive sale price?
We think so. Here's the first trailer [via Apple], which shows a lot but thankfully doesn't give up the film's most memorable parts. The Way, Way Back hits theaters on July 5.
