If last week’s rumor that the Wachowskis are hard at work on a new Matrix trilogy got you all excited for more stories set in that cinematic universe, then this short video is something you’re going to want to see.
3D FX artist Felix Joleanes has released his three-minute Matrix-based fan film The Trickster – and it’s really cool.
In the video, a young woman has to play a game of cat and mouse with a Sentinel searching for her. That’s pretty much it as far as the narrative goes, but it’s a fun video and another example of what folks can make with a small crew and lots of ambition.
Joleanes explains how the project came to be:
“The project was born in 2013 when Antonio, a friend of mine, suggested to make a video with a Sentinel 3D model that I made some time ago for fun. I was hooked since the beginning with the idea, i wrote a small synopsis and then a three-page script, the project started to grow more than i expected. At the beginning we only thought of making a small visual effects integration video and then we ended up with a three-minute live-action short film.”
The young artist kills two birds with one stone here – he’s made a neat short that’s getting attention from fans of The Matrix, and he’s got a nice demo reel for future work. Win-win.
After watching The Trickster, you can get lots of behind-the-scenes technical info on how the short was made by heading over to The Trickster Project blog. You can also check out more of Joleanes’ work on his personal website.
