Normally the first draft of a screenplay is a pretty messy affair, and while some will look at a first draft and see garbage, others will look at it and see dollar signs. Such is the case with The Star Wars, George Lucas' first draft of what would eventually go on to become Star Wars, a little sci-fi franchise you may have heard about. What's unique about Lucas' first draft, however, is that it featured a bunch of alternate takes on characters that dramatically evolved in future drafts.
For example, Han Solo is some big green alien-looking monster, and Luke Skywalker is a general who teams up with someone named Annikin Starkiller in order to defeat the Galactic Empire. Darth Vader is just an evil-looking dude in this and he doesn't wear the big black suit we've grown to adore. But there are still lightsabers! So at least there's that.
The trailer below shows off some of those differences, but it's not a trailer for an upcoming movie or anything -- it's simply a trailer promoting Dark Horse's eight-issue comic series that hits digital stands on September 4 over at their digital store. We don't expect this version to ever become a movie due to brand confusion (among many other things), but it should be fun to dig around and see what this thing looked like when Lucas first vomited it out of his brain.
And sure, we're just as curious as you to see which version we actually like better.
