The Maze Runner

The Maze Runner: Targeting the young-adult audience that made The Twilight Saga and The Hunger Games monster hits, The Maze Runner follows Dylan O'Brien (TV's Teen Wolf) as a teen who wakes up in a huge labyrinth that is constantly changing; he and others must somehow figure out how to survive and, if possible, thrive. The first official photos offer a look inside the maze at some of the characters involved. The movie is due out on February 14, 2014. [MTV]

The Grapes of Wrath: John Ford's 1940 adaptation of John Steinbeck's The Grapes of Wrath starred Henry Fonda, and its drama of a desperate family in desperate times seared itself into the consciousness of most movie fans of a certain age. Steven Spielberg, however, thinks it may be time for a new version. DreamWorks is in talks to acquire the screen rights, with Spielberg ready to produce -- but "absolutely" not direct. [Deadline]

The Sound and the Fury: Another late, great American novelist, William Faulkner provided the source material for James Franco's last film As I Lay Die, which premiered at Cannes to mixed enthusiasm. Franco is not discouraged, however, and intends to serve up another Faulkner novel, The Sound and the Fury, which served as loose inspiration for a 1959 movie starring Yul Brynner. Franco has Jon Hamm (Mad Men) in mind for a starring role alongside himself; Franco has already cowritten the script and plans to direct the project as soon as this fall. [Los Angeles Times]

Delivery Man Trailer: Vince Vaughn has played a movie dad before, but never one with more than 500 children! In Delivery Man, Vaughn stars as an underachiever who learns that his anonymous donations to a sperm bank resulted in the birth of 533 children, who are all now about 20 years old and in search of their biological father. The first trailer presents the dilemma as a heartwarming comedy-drama; the movie, which also stars Chris Pratt and Cobie Smulders, is expected in theaters on November 22. [YouTube]
