Can Johnny Depp do a film where he's not decked out in some crazy makeup? Producer Jerry Bruckheimer tweeted the first image of Depp (as Tonto) and Armie Hammer (as The Lone Ranger) in Disney's upcoming big-screen take on the classic duo. Adding more comments on his site [via The Film Stage], Bruckheimer notes that it's been ridiculously windy, with the special effects crew measuring 70mph winds as they wrapped up their first full week of filming.
You'll remember the film had to go through a few rewrites to get its budget down (removing a supernatural element), but now it's back to business and on track to hit theaters on May 31, 2013, with Helena Bonham Carter, William Fichter, Tom Wilkinson, Barry Pepper and more lined up to co-star. Whether Depp will be in that get-up the entire time, we do not know, but we're loving the freaky tribal look, complete with black bird sitting atop his head.

“The Lone Ranger” is a thrilling adventure infused with action and humor, in which the famed masked hero is brought to life through new eyes. Native American spirit warrior Tonto (Johnny Depp) recounts the untold tales that transformed John Reid (Armie Hammer), a man of the law, into a legend of justice—taking the audience on a runaway train of epic surprises and humorous friction as the two unlikely heroes must learn to work together and fight against greed and corruption."
