Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us was one of the most acclaimed video game releases of 2013. The tale of a man and a young girl trying to traverse the country in the wake of a viral outbreak that turns people into zombielike monsters was far more compelling than the log line led many to believe. In fact, lots of folks who’ve played the game have clamored for a film version of the tale of Joel and Ellie.
While there’s still no word on a cinematic update of The Last of Us, fans in Santa Monica will get a chance to see selected scenes from the game re-created on the stage – with the game’s voice actors bringing the story to life.
Sony reports that this live presentation is a one-time event, and will feature voice actors Troy Baker, Ashley Johnson, Merle Dandridge, Hana Hayes and Annie Wersching performing under the watchful eye of the game’s creative director, Neil Druckmann.
The stage show strives to re-create memorable scenes from the game alongside live orchestration from composer Gustavo Santaolalla. This will be accented by video footage from the numerous motion-capture sessions recorded during the game’s preproduction phase.
The show is slated to take place at the Broad Stage in Santa Monica on July 28, at 7 p.m. If you can’t make it to the show, fear not – some of it will be streamed live on Twitch, YouTube and the PlayStation Network’s Live Event Viewer. Check out the promo video for the performance below.
