Hobbit Bilbo Baggins

Are you ready for another trip to Middle Earth? If so, you’re going to want to have a look at this brand new trailer for Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.

With all the latest buzz surrounding the highly anticipated project being debates about whether turning a single book into three films is a good idea (we remain unconvinced that it is…), it’s nice to see something that has us excited for the project without hesitation.

The new two-and-a-half-minute clip is packed with previously unseen footage and focuses on the beginning of Bilbo Baggins’ quest to help defeat the dreaded dragon Smaug. Bilbo is an unlikely hero when he’s contacted by Gandalf – and most of this preview is dedicated to explaining how and why the wizard has chosen him.

Hardcore Lord of the Rings fans should be pleased – not only does the clip give us time with Gandalf and take us back to some familiar locations in Middle Earth, it also gives us glimpses of returning fan favorites Gollum and Elrond. Smeagol looks as great as ever. That being said, the trailer doesn’t show us everything – we’ve still not even gotten hint of how Smaug will be portrayed in the trilogy.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey promises to rock the holiday box office starting on December 14. Until that day rolls around, enjoy this new clip and let us know what you think by leaving a comment below.

Update: When you're done there, head on over to the official The Hobbit sitewhere you can view five (including this one) alternate endings to the trailer and create your own cut. It's like a choose your own trailer adventure!
