Quentin Tarantino's Next Film May Be About Actor Robert Blake

Jan 24, 2014

Quentin TarantinoPulp Fiction director Quentin Tarantino notoriously scrapped plans to make a new Western, The Hateful Eight, after an early draft of the script leaked to Hollywood agencies – but that doesn’t mean QT isn’t already planning his next feature.

Tarantino’s not sitting around moping about all his potentially lost effort. Reports indicate that the filmmaker is already exploring his next project, which is rumored to be a prison film. Tarantino is allegedly also very interested in the Robert Blake case (wherein the actor was acquitted for murdering his wife) and would still like to make a feature of some kind with Bruce Dern in a leading role.

As for The Hateful Eight, he's already announced plans to publish the script within a year or so. The first draft of it has now ended up online, and so outlets have already started to round up plot details for it. IndieWire has revealed a basic overview of the film’s planned plot:

“The script is an ensemble Western with obvious parts for Madsen and Dern, as well as Tarantino stalwarts like Samuel L. Jackson and Christoph Waltz. Jackson and Madsen would likely both play bounty hunters returning human plunder to a town called Red Rock in exchange for hefty rewards. Their characters, a former major in the Union army and a man named John Ruth, dominate the first two of the script’s five chapters.

They run into a Southerner named Chris Mannix on the road, and three of them, along with their driver — a living prisoner and three dead bounties strapped to the roof — arrive at a haberdashery to take shelter from an oncoming blizzard. Yet the proprietors, Minnie, Sweet Dave and her other colleagues, are nowhere to be found. In their place are four men, a Southern general (likely Dern), an alleged hangman, a Frenchman named Bob and a cowboy named Joe Gage.

Mistrust, coffee and violence ensue.”

That sounds sort of like Reservoir Dogs reimagined in a Western setting – which is something I suspect many of us would have been eager to see.[via The Wrap]
