It's always nice to see a teaser trailer that does exactly what it says on the tin: teases. As trailer editor Mark Woollen recently revealed, the reason so many pieces of marketing reveal too much of a movie is because studio research shows that fans secretly want to know more about a movie they're about to see. The masses, even though they're complaining about it, actually want spoilers in their trailers. Don't worry, that's not happening with this trailer for The Counselor.
You're not getting any spoilers out of this first look at Ridley Scott's new drama. You are getting a few crucial bits of info, though.
1. It looks gorgeous (no surprise there, since it shares a cinematographer with Prometheus).
2. It's written by Cormac McCarthy (No Country for Old Men).
3. The cast is ridiculous (Brad Pitt, Michael Fassbender, Cameron Diaz, Penelope Cruz and a wild-haired Javier Bardem).
As for the actual plot, all you need to know is that it's about a lawyer who gets involved in the drug trade. Beyond that, we're hoping we don't learn too much about this one before The Counselor hits theaters on October 25, 2013. It's nice to have some surprises left in A-list movies.
