We're still reeling over that amazing New York Times article revealing what went on during the filming of Paul Schrader and Bret Easton Ellis' The Canyons. Stories of a naked Schrader, a dramatic Lindsay Lohan, and the what-the-hell-am-i-doing-here-ness of porn star James Deen made it a gripping read. Like our friend Jen Yamato at Movieline, we want to see The Canyons succeed. Those spoofy, retro trailers didn't fill in any blanks for us, but thankfully a whopping three-minutes worth of video has arrived online. This is your first real look at The Canyons, and it features Lindsay searching for her mobile phone (we're sure she's lost it in a few questionable places before) and Deen as a raging, jealous boyfriend. The Times feature mentioned the fiery scene that left LiLo sobbing:
"Deen came to life; throwing the negligée-wearing Lohan hard to the ground and pounding his fist into a wall with such fury I wondered if he had broken his hand. Lohan lay slumped on the floor, her hands guarding her face, shoulders shaking, tears pouring down her cheeks. Between takes, she listened to Ryan Adams’ cover of 'Wonderwall.' After three shots, Schrader said he was satisfied, and Lohan fumbled for a cigarette. She headed downstairs, and someone complimented her work.
'Well, I’ve got a lot of experience with that from my dad.'"
The tension we see may be real since the leads reportedly bickered on set. This is Lindsay we're talking about, so...
The crowd-funded, erotic, neo-noir thriller will soon introduce us to a world of "youth, glamor, sex and Los Angeles." Prepare to be fascinated and depressed by the film's four-way orgy when The Canyons is released sometime this year. It didn't make the Sundance cut, but YouTube seems just as fine a place as any.
