That Is Really Tom Cruise Hanging From the Side of an Airplane in 'Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation'

Mar 23, 2015

After straddling the top of the world's tallest building in Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol, you just knew adrenaline addict Tom Cruise would find a way to somehow top that in the next Mission: Impossible installment, which revealed its first footage -- and new name, Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation -- this week.

Check out the teaser below.

One of the pivotal scenes being teased involves Cruise's character Ethan Hunt hanging from the side of an airplane as it begins to take off, leaving many wondering...well, gee, is that actually Cruise or one of his stunt doubles?

Oh, it's Cruise. "I've often sat on airplanes, looked out and thought, 'What it would be like out there on the wing?' The actor tells USA Today. According to the article, Cruise strapped himself to an Airbus A400 for takeoff and landing. "That's me the whole time. I was standing right over the tires when we landed," says Cruise. "It's nerve-racking for everyone else, but pretty exciting for me."

It's exciting for us, too, because not many movie stars give themselves over to the insanity of a film quite like Cruise does. At 52 years old, the guy is really game for anything -- and it shows because his Mission: Impossible movies (which began with 1996's Mission: Impossible) continually find ways to evolve and entertain like gangbusters with each new installment.

Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation -- complete with insane Tom Cruise airplane stunt -- hits theaters on July 31.
