Yep, there really is a new Texas Chainsaw Massacre coming your way, and this installment is in gory 3D. The new film is a direct sequel to Tobe Hooper's 1974 horror classic, and follows Heather (Alexandra Daddario) who hits the road to Nowheresville, Texas to collect her inheritance. She also finds out that the maniac man-child known as Leatherface is her cousin, and he's part of the package deal. The casting has been revealing itself slowly, and Bloody Disgusting got the word on who would be wielding the chainsaw for this go-round.
Director John Lussenhop and his crew have already started shooting the picture in Shreveport, Louisiana. After a chance meeting with the 6-foot-6 Dan Yeager, Lussenhop instantly knew he had found his Leatherface. Gunnar Hansen, who played the original antagonist with a mask made from human skin, will make a cameo appearance. Marilyn Burns, who played Sally Hardesty – the first film's final girl (who had to put up with the obnoxious Franklin for a brother) – is taking on the role of Verna Carson in the new movie. It wouldn't be a Texas reunion without Grandpa, and John Dugan will reprise his role from Hooper's movie. Genre icon Bill Moseley – who is best known as Chop Top in Part 2 of the series – will play Drayton Sawyer (taking over for Jim Siedow from the original film, who passed away in 2003).
Other cast members include Rapper Trey Songz as Heather's boyfriend Ryan, Tania Raymonde as Heather's best friend with attitude, Keram Malicki-Sanchez as Ryan's friend, Shaun Sipos as a hitchhiker "who knows more than he lets on," Thom Barry as Sheriff Hooper, Paul Rae as town Mayor, Scott Eastwood as a newbie police officer who has the hots for Heather despite her being related to a freakazoid, and Richard Riehle as the family lawyer.
Does the 3D take on the Lone Star serial killer interest you -- knowing that so many of the original cast members are returning to the series, or will this be just another unoriginal horror remake?
