Love it or hate it, Paramount’s reboot of The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is happening (it's slated for release next May). We already know the Jonathan Liebsman-directed feature has Megan Fox and Alan Ritchson in the cast (Ritchson is playing Raphael), but now Deadline is reporting that the three other turtles have been cast as well.
According to the site’s source, Pete Ploszek has landed the role of Leonardo, Jeremy Howard will play Donatello, and Noel Fisher has been cast as Michelangelo. While none of these actors are exactly household names, Ploszek has appeared on Parks & Recreation, and Fisher worked in the last Twilight film as well as Liebsman’s Battle: Los Angeles.
If you’re thinking it’s mostly irrelevant as to who plays our heroes in a half-shell since they spend all their screen time in those elaborate costumes, think again. The plans are to incorporate visual effects like those used in Avatar when it comes to re-creating the Turtles in this new feature. Paramount is looking at launching a Turtles franchise, and making each individual character more easily identified could resonate with audiences.
What do you guys think? Does the new cast and revelation of Avatar-styled visual effects for the Turtles make you more optimistic about this project? We remain convinced this whole thing is a bad idea, but maybe you can change our minds in the comment section below.
