Tarantino, Affleck, and Russell at Director's Roundtable

You can tell movie-awards season is right around the corner because THR is releasing its series of roundtable discussions with various creative types in preparation for the nomination season. Today sees the reveal of the biggest roundtable of them all – the Best Director hopefuls.

Quentin Tarantino (Django Unchained), Ang Lee (Life of Pi), Ben Affleck (Argo), David O. Russell (Silver Linings Playbook), Tom Hooper (Les Miserables) and Gus Van Sant (Promised Land) make up this year’s guests of honor. The biggest name not in attendance? Kathryn Bigelow – who won a Best Director award for The Hurt Locker and should be in the running this year for Zero Dark Thirty.

That omission aside, this hour-long chat is sure to please movie lovers looking for the inside scoop on the craft of making films or just wanting to hear some of the best and brightest shoot the breeze about their lives.

So far, the most interesting sound byte to emerge involves Tarantino stating that his film Death Proof “has to be the worst movie I ever make.” As someone who likes Tarantino’s films but hates Death Proof, I find myself thinking the same thing.

Check out the full video below and let us know what you think of Tarantino’s proclamation. If Death Proof isn’t your least favorite QT joint, let us know what is – but be forewarned: I will strike down with great vengeance and furious anger anyone who disses Jackie Brown. That's just how I roll.
