Last week South by Southwest organizers announced well over 60 feature films for this year's film festival, but they were still hoarding the real titles hard-core fans care about: the midnight movies. They've just revealed this year's slate, though, and it's a doozy. These are the movie that are, in the words of programmer Jarod Neece, "Full of scares, sex, madness, laughs, chills and major mind f*cks."
There's quite a few unexpected titles in the mix. First off, there's the eloquently titled Big Ass Spider from the director of the quite cool Gravedancers, and Plus One, a sci-fi thriller from the director of the better-than-expected remake of The Last House on the Left. Splice and Cube director Vincenzo Natali will be world premiering Haunter, which judging from the description sounds like Groundhog Day with ghosts.
And then, of course, there's the long overdue You're Next. Lionsgate is finally releasing the film this August, but this will be the first time any public audience has seen it since the studio snapped it up off the festival circuit back in 2011. We've seen it and can confirm it's a whole lot of fun.
Check out the full lineup below, and do note that S-VHS has gone back to being titled V/H/S/2.
Also, big congrats to Movies.com writer Perri Nemiroff, who produced the midnight short Child Eater, which was also announced today.
