Jon Favreau's 'Chef' to Open SXSW 2014; 'Veronica Mars' Movie Will Also Premiere

Jan 09, 2014

Oh, hey, did you notice that it's now 2014? And while that means we're all one calendar year closer to retirement (where we can watch movies all day, right?), it also means we get to start a whole new cycle of film festivals again. Sundance is just a week away, and not long after that is the South by Southwest Film Festival. And speaking of SXSW, it just so happens that it unveiled the first few films that will be making their world premieres in Austin, Texas this coming March.

The opening night film will be Chef, a new comedy written and directed by Jon Favreau. He also stars in the film about a once prestigious chef who starts a food truck to rediscover what made him want to cook in the first place. It's a rather star-studded film, featuring the likes of Scarlett Johansson, Sofia Vergara, Robert Downey Jr., Dustin Hoffman, John Leguizamo, Bobby Cannavale and Oliver Platt.

SXSW has also announced a small sampling of other titles that will be playing the festival. You can check out them in full below, but we'd have to say we're most looking forward to Creep and the special Neil DeGrasse Tyson event Cosmos: A SpaceTime Odyssey.
