Superhero Sequel News: 'Suicide Squad 2' Gets 'Tarzan' Writer; 'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3' Confirmed

Mar 16, 2017

Suicide Squad 2: With Suicide Squad writer/director David Ayer off doing a different DC movie (Gotham City Sirens), the sequel to last year's Oscar-winning supervillain showcase will be penned by someone new, and that someone might be Adam Cozad, who last worked on the screenplay for The Legend of Tarzan. It's still not certain who will direct, but Mel Gibson's name has been linked to Suicide Squad 2. Which cast members will return is also still unknown. The comic book movie is expected to release in 2019. [THR]

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3: James Gunn has once again confirmed that a third Guardians of the Galaxy movie is happening, and he'll be deciding in the coming weeks whether or not he wants to direct it. He claims he could move on to do a different big movie that would occupy the next three years of his life. He also reveals that while the Guardians will be integral to the plot of Avengers: Infinity War it's primarily an Avengers movie and they're not the biggest part of it. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 opens May 5. Captain America 4: We can presume there will be some sort of fourth installment of the Captain America series, some day. But Chris Evans appears to be sure he won't be returning for anymore solo sequels. He confirmed that his contract with Marvel is fulfilled after the next two Avengers movies, which are shooting back to back this year, and hints that he's done after that. Avengers: Infinity War arrives in theaters on May 4, 2018, while the untitled follow-up is due May 3, 2019. Legion Season 2: On the small screen, where many series seem to be labeling their second seasons like they're sequels, FX's Legion has been renewed for a part two. The surreal X-Men-based drama concludes its first season at the end of this month, and it's unknown how that will end so it's hard to know who will be back outside of, presumably, Dan Stevens in the titular lead role. We also will have to wait to hear if it'll be back as early as next year. [Variety]
