Billy Crudup / Watchmen

Billy Crudup (above) is in talks to join the cast of The Flash, according to Variety. If things work out, he will portray the father of Barry Allen (Ezra Miller), who transforms into the titular character whenever a very fast superhero is needed.

In the DC comic books, four different characters have been known as The Flash over the decades. Created in 1956, Barry Allen is a criminal scientist who works for the police department in the fictional Central City. He's involved romantically with Iris West, who will be played by Kiersey Clemons in the movie. Barry's father was falsely accused of killing his mother and so clearing his father's name has been an important motivating force for Barry. We'll have to wait to see how Barry's father figures into the new movie's plot.

Crudup's screen career stretches back to 1996 and he's equally at ease in lead or supporting roles. Perhaps most notably, he portrayed Dr. Manhattan -- unofficially known as the big blue naked guy -- in Zack Snyder's Watchmen (above right). Recently he completed work in Ridley Scott's Alien: Covenant. Crudup is well suited for whatever is needed in the The Flash, which is due for release on March 16, 2018.

Back in May, we heard a rumor from Bleeding Cool that Mr. Sinister might be a villain in the third, currently untitled Wolverine movie. The character, also known as Nathaniel Essex, has been granted superpowers such as telepathy, telekinesis, and longevity. As seen in the closing credits of X-Men: Apocalypse, an unidentified man collects vials of blood and places them in his briefcase, marked "Essex Corp."

That speculation has proved to be true. The recently released digital version of X-Men: Apocalypse features an audio commentary by producer Simon Kinberg and director Bryan Singer in which they note, per Cinema Blend, that the appearance of Mr. Sinister is intended to prepare audiences for Wolverine 3. Will the character be portrayed by Richard Grant, previously reported as playing a 'mad scientist' in the movie?

Time will tell. Wolverine 3 is set for release on March 3, 2017.

The Dark Knight Rises

Anne Hathaway memorably played cat burglar Selina Kyle in Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises back in 2012, a character better known as Catwoman. She's duplicitous but charming and, as embodied by Hathaway, the sort of sly and seductive personality that delighted fans.

Soon after the film's release, Hathaway earned an Academy Award for her performance in Les Miserables. Since then she has tackled a variety of roles. Would she ever consider putting on the catsuit again?

“I loved that character and I had such a blast playing her,” Hathaway told Variety. “I’m not sure how it would work because I think the Chris Nolan chapter of the Batman story has been wrapped up and I’m part of that, but I love the DC Universe and it would be fun to take a trip back.”

We haven't heard of any plans for Catwoman in future DC movies but it's good to know Hathaway would be open to the idea. If not Hathaway, though, what other actress would make a great Selina Kyle?
