Beasts of the Southern Wild

The 2012 Sundance Film Festival is all over, except for the shouting. And the repeat screenings. Oh, and the awards! They allow every audience member to voice their opinion on their favorites in four competition categories and the NEXT program. In addition, the competition jury awards reflect the valuable opinions of veteran industry professionals.

The awards ceremony, hosted by Festival Director John Cooper (stepping in for Parker Posey, who took ill) was streamed live from Park City, Utah, on Saturday evening. The ceremony began with the usual thanks to the festival’s staff and volunteers, and included a touching tribute to beloved industry veteran Bingham Ray, who passed away unexpectedly last Monday while in Sundance; the tribute brought Cooper to tears. Actress/director Katie Aselton (Black Rock) came on stage to serve as co-host.
