NOTE: ALL IMAGES REMOVED AT THE REQUEST OF THE STUDIO
We’re pretty excited about the upcoming release of The Hobbit, but not just because we’re excited about a return to Middle-earth with Peter Jackson serving as our tour guide. No, we’re also stoked because the film will give us our first look at the trailer for Tom Cruise’s upcoming sci-fi film Oblivion.
Directed by Tron: Legacy helmer Joseph Kosinski (and based on a script worked on by upcoming Star Wars scribe Michael Arndt), Oblivion sounds like an epic futuristic flick. We don’t know a whole lot about how the film will look, but these newly released concept art pieces have us drooling in anticipation. They’re stunning – and if the story is half as cool as these images, Kosinski and company might have a huge hit on their hands.
Check out the official plot synopsis, then have a peek at a few of the pics (one of them is giving us flashbacks to Moon). You can check out the full gallery over at the Comic Book Movie (via Spanish language site El Septimo Arte).
Tom Cruise stars in Oblivion, an original and groundbreaking cinematic event from the director of TRON: Legacy and the producer of Rise of the Planet of the Apes. On a spectacular future Earth that has evolved beyond recognition, one man’s confrontation with the past will lead him on a journey of redemption and discovery as he battles to save mankind.
Jack Harper (Cruise) is one of the last few drone repairmen stationed on Earth. Part of a massive operation to extract vital resources after decades of war with a terrifying threat known as the Scavs, Jack’s mission is nearly complete. Living and patrolling the breathtaking skies from thousands of feet above, his soaring existence is brought crashing down when he rescues a beautiful stranger from a downed spacecraft. Her arrival triggers a chain of events that forces him to question everything he knows and puts the fate of humanity in his hands.
