Do the Right Thing

Samuel L. Jackson: Early in his career, Samuel L. Jackson made small yet memorable appearances in several films by Spike Lee (including Do the Right Thing, above). They will reteam in Lee’s remake of the brutal Korean revenge flick Oldboy; Jackson will play a small but crucial role opposite star Josh Brolin. In addition, Bruce Hornsby (Red Hook Summer) has been hired to compose the musical score. Filming starts this fall. [Los Angeles Times]

Clint Eastwood: The circle is complete. Clint Eastwood became an international star when he appeared in A Fistful of Dollars, a spaghetti Western based on a Japanese samurai drama, and now a Japanese samurai drama will be made based on Eastwood’s Western Unforgiven. Ken Watanabe (Inception, The Last Sumarai) will star in the new version; Lee Sang-il, who made the acclaimed Villain, is set to direct. [Variety]

Tom Hanks: As a producer, Tom Hanks has been attracted to real-life historical subjects, such as World War II (The Pacific) and the space race (From the Earth to the Moon). Next he’ll tackle the assassination of President John F. Kennedy in the drama Parkland, which will be the directorial debut of Peter Landesman. The film will revolve around the events of November 22, 1963; Parkland is the name of the Dallas medical center where JFK was treated after he was shot. [EW.com]

Stolen Trailer: Nicolas Cage stars in Stolen as a double-crossed master thief who wants to rebuild his relationship with his daughter after he’s released from prison. But she’s kidnapped for ransom by his old partner, who’s convinced that the thief hid the loot from their last job. Stolen steals into theaters on September 14. [Yahoo! Movies]
