Steve Carell made a career out of playing the dopey, lovable goof (see: The 40-Year-Old Virgin and The Office for starters). His role in Adam McKay’s Anchorman was no different, playing dense meteorologist Brick Tamland. The name says it all, really. Now that a sequel to the 2004 comedy is on its way, Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues, a copy of Carell’s Anchorman audition tape has surfaced.
It’s basically a two-minute video of the actor laughing so hard he turns purple, but that alone is funny as hell. In this read-through, Brick mistakes a used coffee filter with cigarette butts on it for a “falafel hot dog with cinnamon and bacon on top.” You can hear Will Ferrell’s Ron Burgundy reading his lines, and then mass laughter ensues. The scene didn’t make the movie, but the producers used the deleted material for an alternate cut. You can watch that, below.
If you need a bigger Anchorman fix, pick up a copy of the two-disc Blu-ray of Anchorman, touted as the “Rich Mahogany edition.” There are tons of extras just like this one, including Wake Up, Ron Burgundy: The Lost Movie and the recording session for “Afternoon Delight.”
